I'm often asked what SuccessNet is all about. I've probably come
up with a hundred different answers and have never been totally
satisfied with any one of them.
There are a lot of ways to describe what we do, but the one I
use most often is similar to our mission statement. It goes like
this: "SuccessNet is designed to help people achieve their full
and unique potential, to be their best--both personally and
professionally."
It's different for different people because everyone has a
unique and special purpose. And it's up to each of us to
discover and then fulfill that purpose.
What inspires me is the difference people make in the world by
what they do, what they say, who they are and what they stand
for.
Socrates said, "The unexamined life isn't worth living." But
others have countered, "The unlived life isn't worth examining."
I agree with both.
It's about balance. If all we do is study, philosophize and
contemplate, we've not fully lived. And if we only DO
things--filling our lives with activity with no meaning or self
examination, we have also failed to fully experience this plane
of existence.
We need both. We need purpose and meaning.
I can think of no greater pain than to be lying on my death bed
not knowing if I'd made a difference, having regrets about
things left undone or wondering what it was all for.
So how do we live full out? How do we fulfill our purpose?
Two words: Diligence and Consistency.
You can't do it in a day or a weekend. Like a good weight loss
program, you have to be consistent. And you have to do it
yourself--it can't be delegated.
We have to pay attention. We have to think. We have to stay
open. We have to know ourselves and be willing to learn.
It's a rare individual who can do this on their own. We need
support. We need to be accountable to others. We need
teachers--sometimes mentors and other times tormentors. We need
ideas.
Sometimes we get sidetracked. Sometimes we get discouraged and
disheartened. And sometimes we crash.
But when we remain committed to doing and being our best, we end
up living a full life. A life of adventure, a life filled with
meaning and satisfaction.
And when we are on the right path, we find that things start to
work. Not always perfectly, but all manner of things seem to
align with our purpose.
What's YOUR passion? Are you living your best life? Are you
playing full out? Does your life have meaning and purpose?
You find what you're looking for. And if you're looking for all
of that and remain diligent, you will surely find it.
